"Meet Your New Best Friend"
Say goodbye to your old friend here and welcome in the new generation of Trollz!
Thanks to Pat and Sally for chiming in on their duvet favorites. Our room is shaping up nicely in the sense that we are keeping it clean and are slowly getting rid of the junk that has been piling up for the past 3 years. Habibi has papers and books in his dresser drawers which means that clothes go on the floor. He's been so good lately about throwing stuff away and hanging his clothes up. If we wanted to hold a mini square dance contest or have a picnic in our room we could now do that very easily without moving anything around.
The one thing we've been having discussions about since the summer is what color to paint the walls. Technically we really are not suppose to paint them but heck we live there and I'm tired of looking at the mosquito carcasses that Issame leaves for me in the morning. So we both like the idea of a sort of Marrakech (city in Morocco) orangey red color. Again-Moroccan theme. I wanted to go a tad lighter because all four walls that color might be a bit intense plus I "heard" the darker the paint the smaller the room appears. In adition to going slightly lighter I wanted to paint it in such a way that there was a sense of texture to the walls. Like the kasbahs in Morocco where it looks as if they are made out of sand. I wanted the walls to look as if we had mixed sand in with the paint.
So we trek on over to Home Depot with BIL&SIL and go over to the paint area. He immediately picks out this "Tango Red" color and I head over to the light orange/peach section. Immediately grumbling and eyebrow raising ensues. I compromise and we go for tango red after I had to ask him to explain to me what he was seeing in his mind. I order the paint, we get one can to test a wall in the room. Then I find a sponge painting kit that looks simple enough to use and would create the effect I am looking for. I show it to Habibi, he likes and then I say, "in order for us to create this effect we'll also have to use a lighter shade paint along with this one" Again, what a beautiful compromise-he gets his tango and I get my light sand effect right? So wrong? I choose a lighter color, hold up next to the darker color card and ask him what he thinks--he says ok. I order the 2nd color. "Mitch" the Home Depot paint mixing guy is like you need a primer. No duh, but I'm not going to buy it here I can get it cheaper at the local hardware store. Then he says the 2 colors don't go, Issame chimes in, "that's not the color I picked out". A back and forth begins between me and Habibi because I clearly walked 10 aisles over to find him to show him the 2 colors side by side. Mitch says something stupid, Issame makes a comment about me to Mitch and I swear I wanted to take that gallon of paint and knock them both out.
Now we get on line, this is special mixed paint, can't be returned. I'm fuming, he's boiling I have never wanted to take a piece of plywood and smash somebody with it as much as I did at that moment. I was so furious, I had tears bursting out of my eyes. Issame makes another comment, I drop the paint cans and walk out. That's it! I'm done! A little background to this: Habibi was annoyed about a couple of things that day which I can't go too much into but has something to do with a certain couple we've been spending a lot of time with lately (hint hint). Of course he won't say anything to the guy so he keeps it to himself and lashed out at me in front of Mitch and the entire Home Depot crew.
We get home and I swear, I'm just getting warmed up. I let him have it (after staying completely silent in the car). And lecture him about how he basically waisted everyone's time because he was in a bad mood. I put on my jammies and go to bed, I'm done. Of course, he comes in a couple of hours later to wake me up and apologize. It's one of these things that I'm not sure if its a thin line between a Moroccan thing or a guy thing. But I should have listened to my gut and insisted we not go get paint because he was in a bad mood.
So my advice, before re-decorating anything with a Moroccan is to take your time, plan carefully, then throw your plans in the trash cause its not worth it.
