Saturday
Got out of work early yesterday. That was a real treat! It's the first time they've let us out early for Good Friday. So met up in Manhattan with the mister and did some sneaker shopping. Got my adorable black & white pumas. Of course we got the World Africa hook-up thanks to the man!
Then headed over to this new Moroccan restaurant called Zerza. It was all right. They charge $15 for one chicken leg. Normally, I don't complain but I called the waitress over to say something. They hooked us up nicely but still.... Mama Morocco would have been upset.
Beautiful day......weather wise. Headed into the city with my art lovin' buddy Heather. Went to the International Center for Photography (ICP). They had 2 really good exhibits, one: a husband and wife team who created Communist propaganda in Russia in the 1920s and some anti-Bush propaganda with 9 war photographers and these larger than life images of soldiers from US, Iraq and Afghanistan--a lot of stillness and death and fear.
Then we headed over to an extremely crowded Times Square--I haven't seen that many people in there since way before 9/11. It's great I guess but so crowded. We did the tourist thing and ate lunch at Bubba Gump Shrimp--the theme restaurant based on the Forrest Gump movie. Food was really good! Then I came home and crashed.......such an old lady.
Have some not-so-great news to report...Guess the grad school gods are way too picky but I didn't get in. I'm okay, really. A little down but certainly not out. My folks definitely raised a confident girl because not getting in was never a scenario I played out so It was quite a blow when I got the thin envelope . I'm going to call them next week and see what it is I need to work on and do it and re-apply for the Spring. I may take a look to see what courses they are offering in public relations or art in the Fall at NYU. I need something to keep me focused and moving. It's bad enough that my photography class got cancelled again this spring and I didn't sign up for anything this summer since we may be going to Morocco. So my brain is going to mush.
My folks were really supportive my dad calling them bastards and Issame called them mother-fers. Ha! Made me laugh which is what I needed--sometimes I take myself way too seriously.
Well let me get hoppin..... don't forget to get your chocolate freak on tomorrow.
HAPPY EASTER Y'ALL!
moroccan stew
originally about an imperfect moroccan-american couple trying to make good on what they've got but that turned out to be too scandalous for some. So now, it's about me and my interests in Moroccan culture, arts, politics and social issues. Don;t get me wrong, there'll still be some bee-ing and moaning along the way and oh, yeah laughs, ha! ha! certainly lots of laughs!
